Oh, hell, another learning opportunity

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some; it is in everyone. And, as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

–Marianne Williamson

The bolds are mine. I’m going to go sit in front of Neo with this quote next to my teacup, and every time I think despairing thoughts, I shall repeat it until I am so bored with the game that I just write.

Pretending to be less than I am is a form of passive aggression. I’ve some things to say about passive aggression — again — but I need to go blow up some goats, first.

  1. So now you are going to make me feel insecure around you? That should be interesting.

I like that quote. Is serving the world a goal of yours?

I suppose I’ll love you even after your apotheosis.

    1. You are one of the few who wouldn’t feel insecure, but that wasn’t the part of the passage that grabbed me.

And, I would rather expect you’d approve of my apotheosing. Apotheosizing. Becoming apotheoted.

Er. Is there a verb anywhere in the base of that word that can be conjugated?

    2. Serving the world:

I generally cannot see the world. Too big. I don’t know that I really believe the world exists. I believe that people around me exist, and that some of them might be humans. I believe strongly in my family’s existance (which includes people not of my direct genetic neighborhood — like you, for example), and I am prone to self-sacrifice for reasons that turn out to be self-destructive.

    1. Of course not. Have at it. Be aware, however, that most people atribute this (incorrectly) to Nelson Mandela.

  2. I love that quote! It gets used in a lot of the self-defense classes I teach, but it feels new every time I see it.

  3. Thanks, again, Big Brother.

Am going to post this soon, but have already passed on to the other big old light-under-bushel-secretor in my life who needs a gentle, loving kick up the arse.
